    Objective
     
    The World Wide Web and Web technology have had a great impact on computer and computing sciences research and education, as well as on society as a whole, particularly with the development of technologies, such as Web search and data mining, ontology and semantic Web, collective intelligence and social computing, media computing, cloud computing, and service computing. Web technology has also provided an infrastructure to promote international research and education collaboration.
     
    The Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU) Web Technology and Computer Science Workshop is a forum for researchers from major universities in East Asia to present and exchange recent research results and report their educational activities related to Web technology and computer science.
     
    The 9th AEARU Web Technology and Computer Science Workshop will be held at Kyoto University, on January 17–18, 2011, and will focus on cloud computing and the search for knowledge. The topics of the workshop include, but are not limited to the following:
     
    1) Web search and data mining
    2) Web intelligence and social computing
    3) Service computing, cloud computing and computing science
    4) Multimedia technology on the Web
    5) Use of Web technology and cloud computing for educational purposes
     
    The workshop will be held in collaboration with the Kyoto University Global Center of Excellence (GCOE) Program on Informatics Education and Research Center for a Knowledge-Circulating Society.

    We cordially invite interested faculty members, university personnel, and PhD students from AEARU-affiliated and other institutions to join us for this workshop.
     
    Persons interested in attending the workshop or giving a presentation (professors and PhD students) are invited to apply to the email address below (non-presenting participants are also most welcome).
     
    Those wishing to give a presentation are asked to submit the title and abstract (in English) of their presentation and a brief resume before November 10, 2010. Full materials for presentations (Power Point slides etc.) must be submitted by December 20, 2010. Please submit all materials by e-mail to Prof. Katsumi Tanaka (workshop co-chair) at the e-mail address below.
     
    Formal invitations to the workshop will be issued around the end of November.

    Participants in the AEARU workshop are also welcome to submit research papers and/or participate in the C5 2011 conference (Call for papers deadline: October 20, 2010, proceedings will be published in the IEEE Computer Society Press and IEEE Digital Library).
